About Us

Founded on the Central Coast of NSW, the Curby program was created by locals who believed preserving our environment can be easy and fun.

In 2020 our lovable Curby the Bilby was born and the Curby Program was created to recycle targeted materials at home using the existing yellow bin.

Now, Curby is available in four Councils  with plans to be launched in more!

Our Vision

Curby has a vision for a future where targeted materials such as soft plastic, coffee capsules, fabrics and more are diverted from landfill to be transformed into a valuable resource. Curby has conducted two trials in which have helped to build solutions to measurably achieve this goal and which have helped to increase recycling rates by 79%.

How does it work?

Curby partners with Councils to collect targeted materials such as Soft Plastics and Coffee Capsules from the community via the existing yellow recycling bin.

Households who download the Curby app and register, simply collect the targeted material in a bag and when they’re ready to recycle…they attach a CurbyTag and place it in their yellow bin!

Curby’s fun and interactive app has a built in QR scanner so you can scan each bag before you recycle, follow your bags journey and help us measure the success of the Curby program!

Once your bag reaches the sorting facility, IQ Renew then separates your bag from the other recycling materials and their recycling journey continues where they are fashioned into “new” materials to be recycled once again!

Our results

Our Results

Since launching in November 2020 we have recovered more than 32,000 kg of soft plastics and aluminium coffee capsules with the help of 15,000+ Curby members.

With a permanent program in Central Coast Council and multiple trial programs operating across NSW, we’re continuously improving how we collect, sort and process materials as we seek to expand the program nationally.

Let’s keep soft plastics and other targeted materials out of landfill.

Join the Curby movement and give your household waste a new life.
